The Canadian Government has announced that it will be allocating $70 towards the live music sector. The Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage, revealed that these funds would be made available to revive music performances in Canada.
With a significant decline in the music industry’s revenue, a big bulk of the funds will be allocated to different entities to boost the economy that has taken a big knock over the last two years. The decline in revenue could be due to social distancing, artists’ mental state, and not allowing any artist to perform anywhere but online.
From all the sectors hit by the pandemic, the music industry took the biggest knock. One of the reasons could be that it is more difficult for aspiring musicians to create new music if the band members can’t get together. Of course, it is not impossible to do virtual sessions, but it has its limitations.
To get the creative juices flowing again, artists and music enthusiasts should attend the international music convention where the business of music is a big deal. The CMW is in its 38th year of allowing artists to grow in their music with conferences, trade exposition, awards shows, and a festival lasting for close to a week and pulling crowds in its thousands.
More than 40 bands will play at live-band venues in Toronto over this time, introducing new legends to the music industry, putting Canada on the map once again as a top contender in global music. Canada has turned out some of the world’s top-ranking singers, including Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne, and Alanis Morissette.
Another incentive to boost artists’ careers is big cash prizes like the $50,000 won by Montreal-based artist, Backxwash for the best Canadian album of the year. Ashanti Mutinta, with the stage name Backxwash, left nine other contenders in the dust and is an inspiration for upcoming artists to deliver authentic music.
Role players in the music industry in Canada are ready to roll out an abundance of new opportunities to upcoming artists, and it is now the perfect time for musicians to pick up their guitars and start writing songs and creating music. Several resources are available to help you start your career.
